Uganda Martyrs’ Hospital Lubaga’s newly constructed maternity ward was on Friday commissioned by the head of Development Cooperation at the Germany Embassy, Udo Weber and the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

The sh2.4bn facility was constructed with financial aid from Misereor, a German Development Agency. It was named after the late Dr. Rita Moser, who worked at the hospital for over 40 years.

Speaking during the function, Udo Weber asked government and the private health service providers to put in place effective health care systems for the better service of the people.

Weber also called for public private partnerships in the health sector as one strategy to make effective health services accessible to all.

Weber further called on the National Medical Stores to ensure efficiency and transparency in the distribution of health logistics. He also called on government and faith-based health institutions to put in place comprehensive programmes for more advanced training of their staff.
