Lubaga Hospital Training School is part of Lubaga Hospital. It started in 1956 by the Grail International women as a Nursing Aid with only six students. In August 2016 Lubaga Trainin School cerebrated the Diamond Jubilee of 60 years. Today the school has a capacity of 350 students and offers Diploma and Certificate courses for male and female students.

3Are there sponsorships for students at Lubaga Hospital Training School?
Yes, there some bursaries for needy students from hard to reach areas and is channeled through the Ministry of Health. Some development partners have also supported some students for example funding from UNFPA to support Midwifery students, and Baylor support for Laboratory and Midwifery students. Other Partners include UCMB, AFRIKA AKTIV, OVC/DSP and Intra Health for Diploma Midwives.
4Where is the school located?
The School is partly located in the Hospital campus for the female Hostel, kitchen, dining and a few classrooms. The bigger part of the school is located outside Lubaga Hospital, 2.5km away in Bulwa Zone. Efforts are being made to consolidate the School at one site.

Requirements for Training School Courses

1Certificate in Midwifery
The school offers an enrolled midwifery direct entry course. The entry requirements are: A minimum of five passes in the subjects English, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. N.B. (Agriculture/Home Economics/Foods and Nutrition/Geography/Health Science compensate for physics if not done or failed at senior four). “A” Level is an added advantage. The intake is once a year in May. There are 15 Places per intake are available (in total 30) and male and female applicants are welcome. The applicants must have attained the required minimum educational standard of not more than three years since the completion of senior four or six. Moreover the applicant must satisfy the interview panel. The training takes 2.5 years in five semesters. Award certificates of training by UNMEB and one from UNMC for certificate of enrollment license to practice as a nurse.
2Certificate Laboratory Assistants
The school offers a Laboratory Assistants (certificate) course. Requirements are For direct entry into the course these must be considered a age limit of 18 years and above. Credits in English, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and three credits or passes in any other subjects are necessary. Those scores should have attained not longer than three years. Senior four and six leavers with credits in sciences at senior four. Moreover the applicant must satisfy the interview panel. The intake is once a year in August. There are 25 places fpr 10 female and 15 male per intake available (50 in total). The duration of the course is two years in four semesters. The Award Certificate is a Registration License to practice as Laboratory Assistant is given by Uganda Allied Health Professions Board (UAHEB). N.B. Candidates who completed senior four more than three years ago especially those who are working have a chance to be trained as laboratory assistants
3Certificate Theatre Assistants
The school offers a Theatre Assistants course. Requirement are: The male and female applicants have to be 18 and above. The education standard is senior four with or without sciences. The applicant has a minimum score of five passes in any subject sciences or arts. There is no time limit to years after completing senior four or six. N.B. Qualified Nurses or Midwives who wish to acquire skills in theatre techniques can be admitted in the second year for three to six months, depending on the qualifications and individual's needs. Moreover the applicant must satisfy the interview panel. There are 15 places per intake available (10 Female, 5 Male). The intake is once every two years in May. The training takes two years in four semesters. The Award – certificate is by Ministry of Education and Sports after registration.
4Comprehensive Nursing
Entry requirements for the enrolled comprehensive nursing direct course are: 1. A Minimum of five Passes in the subjects English Language, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics. N.B. (Agriculture/Home Economics/Foods and Nutrition/Geography/Health Science compensate for physics if not done or failed at senior four). "A" Level is an added advantage. 2. 5Diploma in Midwifery (Extensor)
Entry requirements Midwifery extension course leading to an award of a Diploma are: 1. The applicant shall be eligible for admission on extension course, if she has had at least two years of experience in the clinical area and not more than (10) years in service. Has been verified and found fit for the course. 2. An applicant must either be: a) Registered Psychiatric Nurse b) Enrolled Comprehensive Nurse c) Enrolled Midwife. d) Registered Nurse Intake is once a year in May, there are 20 places per intake available (40 in total). Currently we offer the courses for females only. The course is 18 months in three semesters. Diploma of training by UNMEB. Certificate and Diploma for Registration License to practice as a Midwife by UNMC.
